Had a little false start with this blog post earlier today … accidentally hit “Publish” while trying to explain a feature of WordPress to my husband. Whoops! Sorry about that!
In this weeks work-in-progress post I’m sharing a project, my continuing obsession with handspun shawls, AND with Stephen West’s patterns … a handspun Pogona. I’m often curious as about the names of projects and, as a little side note, according to both the pattern pages and google, Pogona is a genus of lizard which are commonly known as “bearded dragon.” Cool huh? Learn something new every day
The fiber I chose for this project is 8oz of wensleydale in “Scarecrow” colorway by Spunky Eclectic. I love the bright, vibrant, end-of-summer-ish colors in this fiber and as for wensleydale, I just can’t get enough of it! Scarecrow was the October colorway of the month and I chose to spin up mine as fingering weight singles with the intention of using it to knit a shawl. I wanted something that would really show off the great colors of this fiber without muddying the design, so enter in Pogona. A really quick knit (I’m half finished already!) with lots of texture and a unique shape. Can’t wait to work blocking magic on this baby!
So what have you been working on this week? Is there a designer’s patterns that you just can’t get enough of? I’d love to hear all about it!

That color is gorgeous, can’t wait to see it finished. I almost finished a green sky walker shawl, I ran out of yarn. It’s my first shawl, I’ve never seen anyone wear one, where do you wear them Simone, and what do you wear them with?
Congrats on your almost finished shawl! I wear my shawls everywhere. I just toss it on (usually with a pair of jeans and a long sleeved tee) over my coat and go. Or, I wear them kicking around the house because I like to feel cozy. Nothing is better than knitting or spinning while wrapped up in a cozy shawl!
Oh that color is wonderful and so lovely!! I can’t wait to see your Pogona finished, it’s going to be gorgeous
Thanks Tina! I’ve been eyeing up this pattern for a little while now so it is exciting to start knitting it!
Love those colors. Really vibrant, can’t wait to see it knit up!
Thanks Martha! I’m looking forward to the finished shawl too!
Love Fall colours, can’t wait to see the finished shawl!
Thanks Mar! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished shawl as well
Beautiful handspun! It’s going to be a very lovely shawl. Love Amy’s colorways, wensleysdale… I am just learning to spin and having such a time with that fiber, but it’s soooo nice. Gorgeous pattern, too. Can’t wait to get back to spinning & knitting. Take care… and as always, thanks for the inspiration!
I’m so excited that you are learning to spin! And yes, Amy’s colorways are always amazing. I think that each fiber shipment I get from her, I love even more than the last … lol
Ahh such a beautiful yarn, and gorgeous color as well4
As to answer your question, there is a few designer I like very much, but if I would have to name one??? Kate Davies I guess… I love he patterns, knitted only the owls until now, but a couple of others are planned for the near future.
I really enjoy the patterns by Kate Davies as well. I’ve knit a few of them and look forward to knitting more!
