Last Harvest

The growing season is coming to a close here on Prince Edward Island.  There is a chill to the air and you can once again smell woodsmoke.  We’ve put our veggie patches to bed and there are pumpkins sitting on our stoop.  The last thing to tend to is our grapes.

We had our first really good harvest this year and have been enjoying them immensely.  We’ve been tossing fresh grapes into our smoothies and salads and just sitting down to a bowl full for a snack.  They aren’t quite as sweet as the grapes you can buy in grocery stores (by just  a hair) but the very fact that we grew them ourselves makes them more than sweet enough to eat and enjoy.  So today, we harvested most of our grapes and these are slated for,  first, a salad (spinach salad with grapes, avocado,  and feta is AMAZING!) and also for bed-lunch and then the rest of these are going in the freezer for smoothies for the winter.   I know that I probably could make grape jelly or grape juice but I think that we will get the best use out of them by freezing them.

Hope you are all enjoying a peaceful Sunday afternoon!
