Garter Yolk Cardi Progress And First Handspun Of The Year

Handspun Sweater Progress
My first ever handspun sweater is flying right along.  As you can see, I’m not super awesome at progress shots with my camera.  He he he.

I’ve finished the body of the sweater and have half the first sleeve finished.  It won’t be too long now and I’ll be wearing my cozy new cardi.

On the spinning front, I’ve finished spinning and plying my first 6 oz of fiber for 2012.
New Handspun

This beast of a ball was THE ABSOLUTE MAX yarn I could fit on my little Kiwi bobin at once. I honestly didn’t think that I was going to get it all on there! I’ve started spinning the next braid of this yummy fiber but I’m only going to load my poor old bobins up with 4 oz this time so I don’t have the “I-don’t-think-there-is-going-to-be-enough-room-for-all-this-fiber” panic set in.

I’ve got about 9 more oz of this fiber left to spin and I’ll be starting another handspun sweater. I’ve actually changed my mind about which sweater I’m planning to knit with it. Originally I had planned for a Spoked Cardigan but once I got looking at the fiber and the colors, I started thinking that it would make a perfect Greenfield Cardigan so I spun it DK weight instead of Aran weight. I’m really loving the way that handpainted handspun looks in garter stitch!

I have some lovely fiber coming from Greenwood Fiberworks that will look amazing as a Spoked Cardigan so I’ll knit it when I’ve finished spinning that yummy fiber up.

So what have you all been spinning and knitting?  I’d love to hear!

Aw, thanks Tina! You’re making me blush! lol
I really excited about doing this project and I can’t wait to wear my cozy new sweater … especially since it is cold and snowy here now. Perfect weather for a good, warm cardigan!
